Firefox Goodies

Here are some neat tricks for your Firefox browser. Some of these might work in Internet Explorer too, but I wouldn't know, since there's no Internet Explorer for Linux. ;)

  1. Mildred Search Bookmarklet
  2. Access Keys
  3. Firefox Extensions

Mildred Search Bookmarklet

Using the bookmark below, you can search the mildred site from anywhere.

Drag the bookmark below to your bookmark toolbar folder. Then to use it, highlight text somewhere on your screen, then click the bookmark. Or if you don't have any text selected, click on the bookmark to be prompted for a search term.

Here are some terms to highlight and test this with:

Access Keys

Mildred uses a number of access keys to help navigate the site. The actual combinations vary depending upon your operating system, but in if you're using Linux they are:

ALT+SHIFT+h
Go to the home page.
ALT+SHIFT+s
Go to the search box.
ALT+SHIFT+<space bar>
Go to the currently playing track.
ALT+SHIFT+u
When viewing an album, this will go to the album's artist's page.
ALT+SHIFT+f
Toggle follow mode. When in follow mode, a song change will trigger your browser to display the current track.

Firefox Extensions

Check out FoxyTunes. It is a MUST have for anyone who listens to music on their machines regularly. Trust me, you won't regret it.
